A major overhaul of Rother District Council should see a single chief executive taking the helm by the end of September.
The new position, which is expected to come with an annual salary of £115,000, will replace the two existing executive director posts.
It’s part of a drive to make the council leaner, according to a report being discussed by the Licensing and General Purposes Committee next week.
“In the longer term this change at the top is intended to present an opportunity to review the wider council, introduce new ways of working, to become more flexible, customer centric and community oriented,” it stated.
The report, compiled by Councillor Kathryn Field on behalf of the Cabinet, suggests the restructuring could save up to £111,000-a-year.
It also recommends the appointment be ring fenced so only the two existing executive directors – Dr Tony Leonard and Malcolm Johnston – can apply.
The contract is only expected to be for one year, initially, after which the post will be made “substantive” or opened up to external competition.
