Fantastic new martial arts centre arrives in Bexhill

A brand new martial arts academy opens its doors today – and classes are already booking up fast!

Up-Grade Martial Arts will be teaching kickboxing, boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Mixed Martial Arts at its smart Endwell Road academy.

The school is co-owned by husband and wife team, Dan and Sarah Barfoot, as well as Craig Douglin, who doubles as head boxing coach.

And despite having to operate within Covid-19 restrictions for the time being, the team have ambitious plans to grow the school over the coming months.

Dan, 34, said: “We’re here to service our community and look forward to building the team and welcoming you all through our doors. This is the start of something very big!”

Incredibly, the first class at the centre – adults kickboxing at 8pm tonight (Monday 10th August) is already fully booked and a waiting list is in operation.

Due to current covid-19 restrictions, UMA is unable to run BJJ or MMA, while all other classes are limited to eight students per session.

With the current rules dictating the need to pre-book, the pay-as-you-go options aren’t available for the time being.

Up-Grade has already assembled an experienced team of coaches.

Dan is head kickboxing instructor and holds a 2nd degree black belt in the art. He also enjoyed a successful full contact career, claiming the English Revolution and ICO Southern Area titles.

Sarah, co-head kickboxing instructor, is also a 2nd degree black belt and full contact fighter. She will be looking after youth and adult kickboxing and fitness classes at UMA.

Craig is the head boxing instructor and striking coach. He has represented his country at the Kickboxing World Championship in Italy and won titles in both boxing and kickboxing.

Will Thomas will be the head Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coach. He has been training for a decade and won a number of prestigious grappling competitions – and is undefeated in four fights in the cage.

Jessica Fleischer, WRSA English Kickboxing champion across two weight classes, will run the female only classes at UMA. She’s also the founder of I am Fighting Fit, a female focused fitness brand.

Completing the line-up is Aran Hawkins. Undefeated in the ring, he will be bringing his skills and knowledge as assistant boxing coach.
